"Ask Them"

Created by Marilyn Gottleib-Roberts

"Ask Them" is a part of the last decade in "A Southeast Portrait", Marilyn Gottlieb-Roberts' 30-year artistic project. Portrait is about what people do and what is remembered about what they do.

Approximate measurements and description of set-up: Atop a bar about 43" high: two shoulder width (about 20"), shoulder height (about 30") boxes with matched 13" monitors on top of each.

Seated opposite the bar: volunteers from the audience, two at a time, face the monitors. A tripod video camera beside each volunteer captures profile images. On the monitors the profiles appear to face one another.

Process: the MC will choose questions from ones prepared in advance by the artist or from those written by members of the audience. Each pair of volunteers will have three timed minutes to talk over the question they receive. Afterward the pair gets a souvenir: their question sheet with notes about their exchange written on it by other members of the audience.
