Installations
The unconventional screening situations taking place at the various venues, especially off campus, referred to as installations, performances or site-specific events are an important component of the Festival of the Moving Image.
Filmmaker Bob Gilbert ("Jazz Is Spoken Here") explains that, "These extra-filmic events have always exhibited a wide variety of form and content, from the technological glossolalia of multiple image sources projected onto any material that reflects, refracts or diffuses, to the carefully composed internal reference systems of performance art."
"Perhaps the predominate force at work in all the great variety of these works frequently referred to as experimental; this is the conscious and aggressive of the process through which the world is formalized into pictures; the selection and combination, the movements and framings, the edits, juxtapositions and overlays which are the results of the world transformed by media."
