Jeff Whipple
Jeff Whipple is an artist and writer based in Tampa, Florida.
His paintings and sculpture have been featured in more than 60 solo exhibitions in galleries, universities and
museums throughout the USA. He has participated in dozens of group exhibitions across the country and won numerous
top awards in art competitions. His artwork is in the collections of colleges, corporations and museums.
He won Individual Artist Fellowships for visual art from the Illinois Arts Council in 1985 and 1990 and from
the Florida Arts Council in 1982. In 1996 Whipple won a Florida Individual Artist Fellowship for playwriting.
In 2001, he received the Fulton Ross Award for Artists.
As a playwright, Jeff has won several awards and his plays have been featured in sixteen productions and
dozens of staged readings in Chicago and Florida.
Whipple received a MFA from the University of South Florida in 1980. He has taught at several colleges including
Arizona State University and Northern Illinois University.
The Gulf Coast Museum of Art in Largo is presenting a 25-year retrospective of Whipple's art. The show runs November 2002 to January 2003. Mark Ormond, former Deputy Director and Curator of Contemporary Art at the Ringling Museum of Art, selected the artworks for the exhibition. Whipple's newest play, THE TERRORISM OF LOVE, is also being performed at the museum. There is a 36-page catalog for the show and a 30" x 22" poster. The show is currently scheduled to travel to Naples and Orlando. Other venues are being considered.
