Martha Garzon as a child in Columbia
Martha Garzon left her native Colombia three years ago because of political
reasons. Escaping from the violence and the ongoing civil war, she arrived to the United States
in a quest for a new life.
She studied Fine Arts at the National University of Colombia in Bogota, and is currently finishing
a degree in Digital Arts at Stetson University in Deland, Fl.
The majority of her most recent work is digital video and photography. In the last two years
she has made more than 15 documentaries, animations, narrative and experimental short videos.
The young artist believes an artist has a social responsibility to society.
From the Artist:
“For me, art is more than a beautiful object to be displayed and admired. It is a
powerful and universal tool that can be politically and socially engaged. Art and communication
can be blended creating an alternative medium to reach audiences and raise consciousness in
the community.”
