The Tampa gala premiere of "Ferdie Pacheco: The World of the Fight Doctor" will open the HCC Ybor Festival of the Moving Image.

The realms of sport, art, literature and medicine collide in this documentary featuring Renaissance man Ferdie Pacheco, who ascended from treating patients in Miami’s inner city to the global stage as fight doctor and friend to Muhammad Ali and 12 other boxing greats. Filmmaker Daphne Wynn Boyd uses recently discovered footage of Ali training at the Fifth Street Gym with Angelo Dundee and others, and interviews with such luminaries as Budd Schulberg, Leroy Neiman, and Edna Buchanan to paint a portrait of the Emmy award-winning broadcaster, author, and painter, Ferdie Pacheco, the Fight Doctor. Original music is by Bibi del Rincon.

This special opening night Festival of the Moving Image event at Tampa Theatre will include a reception for Mr. and Mrs. Pacheco, sponsored by Able Body Labor, Inc. A question and answer session with Daphne Wynn Boyd and Ferdie Pacheco immediately follows the 44-minute documentary.

The reception will be catered by Viva la Frida's Cafe.
