Atlantic Prize for Student Filmmakers

Atlantic Productions, a Tampa, Florida, film productions company, is awarding three cash prizes to student filmmakers selected as winners of the Atlantic Prize for Student Filmmakers. The first place winner will receive $500; the second and third place winners will receive $200 and $100, respectively.

Hillsborough Community College-Ybor also is awarding cash prizes in the same amounts for the Florida Independent Films competition, for which Florida filmmakers who are not students are eligible.

Winners of both sets of case awards will be announced at the Festival of the Moving Image's awards ceremony at 7:30 pm Saturday, April 10, 2010, at the Mainstage Theater of the HCC-Ybor Performing Arts Building.

Criteria for judging were as follows:

• Does the film have heart and integrity?
• Is the form for the film competent? Is it innovative and something really special?
• Is the content worthy, interesting and unusually important?
• Is it art?
• Is the filmmaker someone of significance, someone who has the ability to inspire other artists, and the strong potential be a leader in the field of the moving image?

Atlantic Productions has been a filmmaking "cooperative", encouraging motion picture art, for 38 years. The University of South Florida Chinsegut Film/Video Festival was held through many of those years to inspire, encourage and highlight filmmakers aspiring to excellence.
