From the big wheel to the midway, the house of mirrors to the dime toss, every ride on the James E. Strates Show's carnival travels from town to town by train, from Florida to upstate New York.
The carnies who assemble and maintain the rides and man the games are often looked down upon because of their transient way of life. Matt Barr – who worked five summers as a carney in California in the 1970s – goes behind the scenes to capture how the magic of the midway comes together, town after town, and how carnies create a community and way of life that transcends place and time.
